Liverpool have been hit with an explosive twist in the Thiago saga.

Goal.com have reported that Bayern Munich director Uli Hoeness has poured fuel on the flames of 2020’s most boring transfer rumour.

Nobody knows whether Liverpool are really in for Thiago. We’ve been told all sorts, with the latest news being that a bid has actually been submitted for the midfielder.

However, it wasn’t enough for Munich, and Hoeness has been ranting about the supposed underhand tactics being employed by the Reds and Manchester United.

"He said: “I think he obviously has an agreement with Liverpool or Manchester United or both of them. Now both clubs are bluffing, and no one has contacted Bayern Munich officially.“From my point of view, that has no style. They’re trying to blackmail us, by waiting until the last week, when they’re going to make a cheap offer.”"

Thiago had agreed to sign a new four-year deal with Bayern, said Hoeness, but had reneged on his promise and now it appears as if he’ll leave on a free transfer when his contract expires.

The Bayern chief has raged against Liverpool and United for trying to drive down the price of the Spaniard by waiting until the last possible moment to put an offer in.

It’s surprising that Hoeness has rallied against this. Trying to get the best value for money is how most clubs do deals, while any time a player goes down to his last 12 months the sharks are circling the waters.

Apparently the player want to come to Merseyside, but who knows if that’s going to happen. Fans are so sick of this continued back and forth, and the closer we get to ending it all, the better.

Liverpool started their 2020/2021 with a mad, 4-3 win over Leeds United. Gini Wijnaldum, who has often been touted as the player to give up his spot for Thiago, played well and that should quieten the clammer for the Spaniard.

Alongside Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jurgen Klopp is well stocked in midfield areas and doesn’t appear to be overly keen to make further additions to the squad.

It looks like we’ll just have to watch this one escalate.
