Liverpool want to sign Gio Reyna.
German publication Bild has reported that Jurgen Klopp is keen on the 17-year-old American, who started his Bundesliga season with a goal and an assist against Gladbach.
Liverpool have been linked with Borussia Dortmund players before, most notably Jadon Sancho, so it’s refreshing to see a rumour that isn’t about the former Manchester City youngster.
Dortmund have a young, exciting forward line and the Durham born youngster is just one part of that. However, Bild described him as the ‘BVB jewel’ and that should indicate how highly rated Gio Reyna is.
Despite his age, the forward has already played 20 times for Dortmund and looks set for a prominent role in an attack that will feature 20-year-old Erling Haaland, 21-year-old Jadon Sancho and 18-year-old Reinier.
17-year-old Jude Bellingham will glide across from central midfield to get forward when necessary and we’ve already seen how good the former Birmingham City man is when he does that.
Jurgen Klopp really likes the look of Reyna, said Bild, and this story could develop into the next great transfer saga. According to Transfermarkt, the American is valued at £13.5 million – but if he plays regularly and does well we could easily be taking about Jadon Sancho type fees.
Dortmund do sell, but they do so at a premium and only when they want to. If Liverpool want to bring one of the their best talents to England, they won’t be able to do so on the cheap – not even with the Klopp connection.
It looks like this is part of an attempt to futureproof that forward line. Diogo Jota can play across the front three and is just 23, Takimu Minamini is better through the middle and is 25, while Reyna would be another young forward option.
After sweeping aside Lincoln, Liverpool take on Arsenal next. Minamino impressed with his two goals, but Roberto Firmino is untouchable for now and you’d expect him to continue in the team.
