Back in his usual number six role, Fabinho looked again excellent following on from his masterful performance last time out.

He even swapped places with Wijnaldum on occasion, into the number eight role, when driving through midfield with his telescopic legs.

We might see his return at centre-back on Thursday in the Carabao Cup against these opponents, but for now, he is much better suited for the six.

Gini was as usual his solid self, with the pressing game being led in the midfield by the Dutchman when Firmino dropped deeper.

His runs forced the Arsenal players into mistakes – keeping the Arsenal back five under constant pressure with his midfield comrades.

He was denied early on by Leno, and rarely threatened offensively. But it was his work off the ball which defined his performance – akin to the majority of his teammates.

My agenda for Naby wanted to add an extra .5 to his score, but it would be unfair on the other two midfielders to overrate the Guinean.

However, his dribbling ability and strength in situations – especially for the opening goal in which he played a pivotal role.

He was substituted, probably rightly, for James Milner with 15 minutes to go.
