Liverpool really need to win this game because anything other than a fairly convincing victory will lead to question marks over the mentality of the squad following two highly successful campaigns.
Fine results against Chelsea and Arsenal were followed by that horrific defeat to Villa in which the veil slipped away from the Reds’ faces and their lack of determination was exposed for the first time in years.
Everton haven’t beaten Liverpool for a decade now and this is their best chance to do it. Ancelotti have got them working well together and they look like a much better unit now than they ever have over the last 10 years.
