Liverpool player ratings: Midfielders

Gini Wijnaldum (8/10) Wijnaldum was booked and put in a few crafty fouls, but was a lot more sensible with it once he went in the book. As usual, Gini was full of energy and protected the ball really well. He also popped up with some excellent bursts forward and ensure the Atalanta midfield could never switch off.

Jordan Henderson (8/10) Henderson set the tone, was the ultimate leader on the field and even managed to showcase a little bit of his creative spark. He helped to control things and got the ball moving forward at pace, and made more key passes than anyone else despite playing 30 minutes less.

Curtis Jones (8/10) A highly encouraging game for Jones, who really looked the part in the Champions League. He’s got more minutes in European competitions than in the league and grabbed an assist for Salah.

He had one good effort on goal, but never really looked like he would hit the back of the net.
