This is the Liverpool lineup that we predict for the Manchester City game.

On Sunday, the Reds head to Manchester to take on Pep Guardiola’s side for the first time this season. The late afternoon kick off is the first really massive game of the campaign and will be an interesting test of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

City beat Liverpool after lockdown but the 2019/2020 season was already won by then. This time it’s different, and everyone expects Klopp’s team to put in a much bigger and better effort.

Both sides have their injury concerns. Virgil van Dijk is out, of course, and Thiago looks unlikely to take to the field as the knock he sustained against Everton continues to bother the Spaniard.

He was absent from training as Liverpool prepared to take on City, but Klopp is busy welcoming further options back to the side. Joel Matip took his place on the bench against Atalanta and he’ll want to start on Sunday.

This team will be feeling confident after that magnificent 5-0 win over the Serie A side as several players enhanced their reputations on Tuesday night, but how many will keep their place in the side?

Diogo Jota is one of them, and the Portuguese international played with extreme confidence, swagger and verve, but he’s not guaranteed to start on Sunday.

One man who is sure of a place in the team is our star goalkeeper, Alisson Becker. So let’s kick off the Liverpool lineup with the gorgeous Brazilian.

Goalkeeper – Alisson

Alisson would certainly start, and we’ll all the better for it. Adrian is a capable understudy, but there’s nobody better to have than the former Roma man.

Sergio Aguero could return to face Liverpool on Sunday, but he’s a major doubt after coming off injured against West Ham.
