Gifting the Champions League to Liverpool

When Liverpool won the Champions League in 2019, the euphoria felt immortal. The memories of overcoming European Giants such as Bayern Munich, PSG, Napoli, Porto, Barcelona, and Tottenham remain fresh in the reds fans’ minds.

The most memorable European night when Liverpool clawed their way back from being 0-3 down on aggregate to beat Barcelona 4-0 was the pinnacle of the club’s capability on the European stage. The night signified Anfield as the Fortress for Liverpool.

The trophy solidified the resurgence of Liverpool as one of the top clubs in Europe and the world. The benefits were massive as the club’s revenue, commercial value, and footballing value grew to innumerable heights.

However, in the following season in 2019-20, Liverpool suffered heartache in the form of a tough loss to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid at home at Anfield. The knockout tie saw Liverpool dominate the Spaniards but lose out due to a goalkeeping error and a bit of misfortune.

This loss left a bitter taste in fans’ mouths and left scars on which was otherwise an extraordinary season where the Merseyside giants finally won the Premier League.

In the 2020-21 season, we hope that Santa could gift Liverpool a spectacle of luck to rekindle the team’s determination on the European stage by helping them to mount a serious challenge against other giants in Europe.
