Rhys Williams’ header

The teenager made only his second Premier League appearance today after Joel Matip was forced to leave the pitch owing to an injury. He didn’t have a very good outing to say the least and had one moment which saw Liverpool pay a huge price.

Not long after Alisson’s save from Karlan Grant, Williams’ mistimed header gave West Brom a corner and from that, Matheus Pereira provided the cross which saw Ajayi’s subsequent header deflect from the post and find its way into the net. Alisson, though, could have judged that header better.

Williams could’ve easily headed the ball better and that MIGHT’VE prevented the Baggies from finding the equaliser.

The 19-year-old has made eight appearances for the senior team so far and while he has done well at times, he’s had some shaky moments too.

With Matip injured, Williams might receive more first-team opportunities and get a chance to prove why he’s a good shout to be in the playing XI. However, Liverpool should start considering buying someone in the next transfer window.

It will be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp starts Williams or Nathaniel Phillips against Newcastle United on Wednesday.
