3 big events that shaped Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with West Brom
Joel Matip’s brilliant pass
The Cameroonian centre-back has also been involved in some of his team’s goals lately. Earlier in the month, he found the net with a header against Wolves and last weekend, he provided the assist for the first of Mohamed Salah’s two goals against Crystal Palace.
Today, Matip registered another assist against West Brom for another African footballer, Sadio Mane. With only 12 minutes on the clock, the former Schalke defender made a fine delivery which was brilliantly chested by the Senegalese international before beating the goalkeeper to net his sixth Premier League goal of the season and seventh overall.
Matip has been proven to be very efficient in the absence of both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, producing some good performances at the back while also chipping in with a few goal contributions.
However, the 29-year-old’s biggest downside has been his tendency to get injured and he sustained another one today which forced him to leave the pitch. Klopp has said that the extent of Matip’s injury is yet to be determined but there’s a fair chance he could be out for about a month or maybe even more.
We can only hope for him to be back as soon as he can as right now, the club doesn’t have too many centre-back options.
