It was another horrible result for Liverpool.

The Reds’ wretched run of form in the Premier League continues with an uninspiring 1-0 defeat to Southampton. After the 7-0 thumping against Crystal Palace, things just haven’t been the same. The lack of cutting edge in the final third handed the Reds their second defeat of the season.

How much longer can Jurgen Klopp go without signing a central defender? The German played both skipper Jordan Henderson and Fabinho as the two centre-backs tonight.

After conceding early on thanks to a clever finish from Danny Ings, the Liverpool midfield was static for most parts. This is something that Fabinho and Henderson normally take care of.

Former Red, Jamie Carragher, has had his say on the centre-back situation as well as he tweeted:

"“I can’t see Liverpool winning the league if they don’t bring in a centre-back.“"

Problems up-top continues as well, with Liverpool failing to score for the second game in a run for the first time in the Premier League since May 2018. Just one shot on target in all 90 minutes is far from good enough.

Unlike the draw against Newcastle, tonight’s game wasn’t about taking our chances, because there were none created. The front three barely linked up all game, and whenever they did, it didn’t amount to anything substantial.

Before the game, Liverpool fans were keen on Thiago starting and Xherdan Shaqiri getting more game-time. The manager satisfied both of those demands, yet Liverpool couldn’t find the back of the net. In fairness to the duo, they looked like the only ones that could add some impetus to the game.

Liverpool will now move on to the FA CUP 3rd round tie against Aston Villa, a team that humiliated us earlier this season. But before we do that, let’s look at the three moments that shaped tonight’s dreadful result.
