Famous pundit: Liverpool draw ‘actually unbelievable’

Liverpool failed to score again.

The Reds took on Manchester United but couldn’t hit the back of the net again. In fact, that makes it nearly a month since the last time Jurgen Klopp’s side has.

The 12th minute of their fixture against West Brom on the 27th December was the last time Liverpool scored – Sadio Mane did the damage on that occasion.

Since that 1-1 draw, Klopp has seen his side failed to hit the back of the net against Newcastle United, Southampton and Manchester United.

Apart from the mad 7-0 win over Crystal Palace on the 19th December, they have five goals in seven games, not including the victory against Aston Villa’s U18 side.

So what to do? Is Klopp nearing a stage where he can legitimately be criticised? The club are refusing to sign another central defender, even though playing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at the back is clearly damaging the team moving forward.

There’s sound reasoning for that. With COVID, Liverpool don’t want to make expensive moves as finances have been damaged.

Except this could come at a cost. The Reds have slipped down the league, they can’t score goals and are now three points off the top of the table.

One journalist, the well respected James Pearce, spoke about Liverpool’s lack of firepower and called it ‘unbelievable’. If you consider how well this side have moved forward recently, it is.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino should not be in the middle of dry spells such as these. Takumi Minamino, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi should be able to push them harder, while Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be dangerous from midfield.

Should is a dangerous word; it can be a comfort blanket, but a comfort blanket’s no use when it’s on fire. Something is broken within this team, and should isn’t going to fix it.
