There’s an unwanted West Ham man that could solve Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s problems.
Football Insider has written an exclusive claiming that the Hammers are willing to let their centre-back Issa Diop leave the club.
The 24-year-old has only played four Premier League games this season but has previously been a key component of the London side’s back four.
Diop joined West Ham for £22.5 million from Toulouse and has played 78 times, 69 of those in the Premier League. Football Insider say they’re willing to let the France U21 international leave on loan, and Liverpool should move for him.
With our two key defenders out for the rest of the season, and Joel Matip as unreliable as ever, bringing in someone with experience at this level makes sense.
Liverpool must act
The fact that it’s a short-term move may put off Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards, but they may have to break the traditions of the past four years in order to try and forge a successful campaign.
Bringing in Diop would allow Jordan Henderson to push forward and take his place in midfield, while Fabinho could join him if Rhys Williams or Nat Phillips are trusted at centre-back.
However, Diop has played so little this season that he would definitely take some time to get back to full match fitness. He would certainly miss the next chunk of games as Klopp acclimatised the man to Liverpool, and the man acclimatised to the team.
Issa Diop can help
In a world of marginal gains, his presence at the back, even for a short period, could produce the kind of marginal gains that allows Liverpool to push their midfielder into midfield, get on the front foot and seek to dominate again.
Other Liverpool transfer news
In other news, there are reports that suggest Liverpool are close to signing the next Jack Grealish. We’ve lacked some creativity in the middle of the park recently, and this could help to solve that problem moving forward.
Klopp is also interested in bringing in one of Serie A’s best midfielders in order to solve this issue.
