Here are the player ratings for Liverpool’s brilliant 3-1 win over Spurs.
Goals from Roberto Firmino, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Sadio Mane gave Liverpool a much-needed win over Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.
Negativity surrounded 7pm’s teamsheet as Fabinho was a notable absence on Liverpool’s part. Sergio Reguilon was ruled out yesterday by Jose Mourinho.
Liverpool came close in the opening minute – Firmino slid through Sadio Mane who blazed wide from a clear path to Hugo Lloris’s net.
Down the other end, a typical Harry Kane/Heung-Min Son transition allowed the Korean to slide in at Alisson’s near post. Fortunately for the Reds, his heel was offside in the build-up.
Liverpool looked increasingly confident throughout the first half and would get their just reward with the final kick. A wonderfully chipped through ball to Sadio Mane saw the Senegalese square to Firmino, who couldn’t miss. He loves a goal against Spurs, doesn’t he?
Joel Matip and Harry Kane were both substituted at half-time due to injury. You have to question whether the Cameroonian was fit enough in the first place.
The Reds started the second half as they finished the first – and got a due goal to double their lead.
Liverpool player ratings incoming
The man who scored the Reds’ last Premier League goal before tonight, Sadio Mane, drilled a low shot to Hugo Lloris’s left, with the Frenchman parrying questionably to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The relief on Trent’s face when he drilled home was a sight for sore eyes. He was right back to his best today. Spurs grabbed one back with a screamer from Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg just 90 seconds later, but barring that purr, Jose’s men never got going in the second half.
Liverpool thought they’d made it three when Mo Salah smashed home before it was ruled out by VAR, but they didn’t have to wait for long as Mane smashed home Alexander-Arnold’s cross from close range.
A massive win for Jurgen Klopp, sending Liverpool back to within four points of leaders Manchester City. Tottenham drop to sixth.
Here are the Liverpool player ratings, starting with the goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker – 6
The big Brazilian didn’t look great in some moments but did the basics well. He should have stopped the early effort from Son, but had his blushes spared with the rise of the virtual offside flag.
Decent, but not his best performance in the barren period. Luckily it didn’t need to be.
