Liverpool is close to sealing the deal for Ozan Kabak, and it could be the next Virgil van Dijk moment.

Reports have said the Reds want to bring Kabak to Merseyside, but need to wait until Schalke sign former Arsenal man Shkodran Mustafi.

While there could be some criticism of FSG in their decision to wait until deadline day to try and bring this player in, especially with the rush that comes with this time of the year and all the moving parts that need to be satisfied.

Earlier in the season, Liverpool was quoted a fee of £30 million to sign the player – but they’ve managed to wait for the right time and should be able to land Kabak for a lot less.

Liverpool transfer news: Ozan Kabak could be another van Dijk moment

The current deal, if it happens, will be for the Reds to sign Kabak on loan with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool will pay around £1 million for the loan, plus an additional £500,000 in bonuses. In total, the move could cost FSG less than £20 million – £10 million less than what Schalke wanted back in the summer.

While Southampton earned more money from Liverpool for van Dijk by making us wait until January, the patience that Klopp and Edwards showed in getting their man was admirable.

Now they’ve displayed that same patience, should Kabak come in, and it could be the next van Dijk moment. At just 20-years-old, the Turkish international has been exposed to a high-level of football and has played a lot of football in his short career.

He’s already had three big moves, moving slightly up the ladder each time. He’s gone from Galatasaray to Stuttgart to Schalke and now possibly Liverpool in just three short years – oh, and you can add seven caps for Turkey to that as well.

We’ve been made to wait, but this could prove to be another instance of Liverpool playing the waiting game expertly.
