Say what you want about Liverpool’s extremely lacklustre season so far; it’s not all been their fault. I mean, for the most part, it has been, but it’s also bad luck due to injuries and all.
Liverpool have had injuries to their defensive partnership, some injuries in the attack, and a couple in the midfield as well. Even though some players are returning soon, it’s still a blow to Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League.
Thiago, one of Liverpool’s only decent players this season, picked up a knock and is doubtful for the game against Everton.
This, I can say is a mixture of the two points I brought up in the first line. It is bad luck, yes, but it is also the club’s fault.
Let me break this down.
Thiago’s injury wouldn’t have mattered as much if Liverpool had made some transfers
Thiago is easily Liverpool’s best midfielder, but it was clear that they needed more, someone to lead the midfield when Thiago wasn’t around, because, truth be told, as good as he is, Thiago is also very injury prone. Not signing a like-for-like replacement for a player of Thiago’s importance is unbelievable.
They tried signing Aurelien Tchouameni, but he’s not the kind of player Thiago is, so I don’t understand what their plan of action was. They signed Arthur Melo, but he has also been struggling with fitness all season, so was their plan to sign a replacement for an injury-prone player somehow forgotten about after signing another injury-prone player? Kind of odd.
This is something Liverpool need to fix as a club. Not signing players because you think you have good enough players is one thing, but not signing backups is another, and they are facing all the problems because of that with this injury to Thiago.

Now their midfield against Everton would probably be Bajcetic, Keita and one of Oxlade Chamberlain and Jordan Henderson. It’s not looking good. Liverpool must take note.
