In the midst of all the criticism leveled at the players, manager, and owners for the club’s awful  to the season, Liverpool has begun to assess what has to be done. They should have done it sooner, but better late than never.

The Reds are watching the transfer market with their eyes wide open. There aren’t many players said to be leaving in the coming summer who Liverpool isn’t interested in. The message is clear: there is an urgent need for squad renovation, and it is now being addressed with zeal.

The present midfield has lost its allure, thus players with innovative talent are being sought. Some potential candidates are Jude Bellingham, N’Golo Kante, and Mason Mount.

The defensive line’s underperformance and injury worries are also being evaluated, as it has been rumored that a shortlist of defenders to be targeted in the summer has been established.

Liverpool have made Benfica centre-back their top transfer target

It is reasonable to argue that the defensive line need at least as much remodeling as the midfield. Some of the more humiliating defeats this season have resulted from extraordinarily bad defence, with the final score featuring multiple goals in Liverpool’s net.

According to Footballtransfers.com, the Merseyside club has taken note of the situation and has prioritized Benfica defender Antonio Silva this summer. After excelling with his club and the Portuguese national team, the youth has attracted a lot of attention.

Silva’s defensive qualities are highly regarded, and deservedly so. Despite being only 19 years old, he is one of Benfica’s most dependable center-backs, with tremendous physicality and tackle-making skills while remaining clean.

According to FBref, Silva averages 2.13 tackles per 90 minutes, putting him comfortably in the top 90 percentile. With Virgil Van Dijk’s injury fears clouding not just this season but possibly the next, adding defense depth by acquiring Silva might not be a terrible idea.

Silva, who stands at 187 cm and has the physically fit frame required for a powerful centre-back, might be a genuinely excellent addition to Liverpool’s ranks.
