Liverpool are potentially going to have a big spending transfer window in the summer, and rightfully so. God knows they need one. They need midfielders but that’s not all they need. They wouldn’t really mind a centre-back either, and it remains to be seen what they do.

Free agency is a very useful tool for clubs to add players to their roster without spending that transfer fee money. Instead, the money goes to the agent and the player, but it’s not as much as they would spend in a normal transfer situation.

There are five really good players that Liverpool might be able to sign, should the players’ contract situation stays the same.

These five players are good, and they all would provide something to this Liverpool side. According to a list from Liverpool Echo, Ilkay Gundogan, N’golo Kante, Marcus Thuram, Caglar Soyuncu and Youri Tielemans are still free agents in the summer as of now, and it remains to be seen what Liverpool go for, if they do look at these players as potential options.

I mean, Marcus Thuram is an excellent player, but I think he’s also the least likely option out of all five players. Liverpool’s attack is good enough, they have great players across the attack, and I don’t think they will be going for a player like Thuram, as good as he is.

Most of the rest, however, are good options. N’golo Kante has been linked to Liverpool before, and he would be a good option to have for the short term, although his injury record has been dodgy as of late.

Ilkay Gundogan would’ve been a good option in the past, he’s interesting and it would be fun to see how he would work at Liverpool, but, again, injuries haven’t been kind to him, and although he has had a couple of great seasons, I don’t think Liverpool will go for him, especially considering he is 32 years old.

Soyancu is a decent centre-back that has fallen out of favour with Leicester coach Brendon Rogers. He has a high ceiling, but he has only played two games in the Premier League this season, and he has also been linked to a move to Atletico Madrid. But Liverpool do need a centre-back, so he might not be the worst option to have.

Tielemans is a good outside-of-the-box option. He is a good presser, a good passer, and could be a great option for the Reds, considering their starting midfielders are so injury prone. Tielemans is hard-working, and no one really mentions his name in the same breath as Liverpool, but maybe they should.
