Liverpool’s midfield needs some reinforcement. I think we talk about it every day now. It gets a bit repetitive, but there’s a new rumor every single day, and it remains to be seen which of these rumors actually come to fruition. We don’t know. We will soon find out, though.

There have been plenty of players linked to the team. Some make sense, and some don’t make as much sense, but there are things to wonder about for every single link. This one is no different.

According to FootballTransfers, reported by Jacque Talbot, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Mac Allister is being linked with a move to Liverpool.

The Argentine’s agent was at Anfield witnessing Liverpool’s 5-2 loss to Real Madrid.

It is also reported that the player’s potential move, or at the very least a similar profile would not step in the way of a Mason Mount-type signing. According to this report, Mount is mainly interested in Liverpool.

The asking price is where it gets a little tricky. The report says Brighton will ask for 70 million euros for Mac Allister. That’s a lot of money.

Now, here is the thing that confuses me. If Liverpool are actually interested in Jude Bellingham – which they definitely are – they don’t really need Mac Allister, do they? And, well, if they are signing another midfielder, it might be Nicolo Barella. Would they spend 70 million on Mac Allister or around 60-65 million for Barella? I would like to think that the Italian has the upper hand, but obviously, I could be wrong.

There are definitely many people that rate Mac Allister a lot higher than I do, that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s good. He is. I just think there are better options for the same price. If we talk about age. Barella is 26, while Mac Allister is 24. There’s not a whole lot of difference there.

It’s just a rumor, so we will wait if and until it turns into something concrete, but for now, I don’t see Mac Allister joining Liverpool for 70 million when there are better options available.
