Cody Gakpo is fast becoming one of the most exciting and reliable players in Jurgen Klopp’s squad. The 24-year-old Dutch international is in his first full season at Liverpool after signing from PSV in January.

Gakpo put up impressive numbers in his first action at Anfield, finishing with 7 goals and 2 assists in 21 matches with 17 starts. The right-footed attacker is continuing his good play in his second season in the Premier League with 2 goals in 10 matches and 6 starts.

In his first two seasons at PSV, Gakpo scored a total of 8 goals in 41 matches played, and he has already far exceeded that number in his first two seasons at Liverpool while playing in arguably the toughest league in the world. Cody Gakpo is a name on everyone’s minds these days.

Throughout his brief time at Anfield, Gakpo has showcased an explosive right foot, an exceptionally soft touch, and a vast array of technical skills.

One of Gakpo’s most stunning Liverpool goals came this year against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup. Gakpo’s soft touch controlled a quick pass in the middle of the box above the spot; he made two skillful touches to make a quick turn toward the goal; and he blasted a right-footed rocket past the keeper into the left corner of the goal.

Gakpo has a keen awareness to find an open spot during an attack. His Liverpool highlight reel thus far would be scattered with beautiful one-touch goals where he put himself in the right spot at the right time.

Another amazing aspect of Cody’s play is his confidence and demeanor amidst his transition to the Premier League.

His confidence to move forward and take shots against some of the toughest defenders in the world is impressive. He put on a great display at the 2022 World Cup and carried it to Liverpool.

After Cody Gakpo suits up for international duty during this week’s Euro 2024 qualifying matches, Liverpool fans will be looking forward to watching more of his exciting style of play when the Reds take on Manchester City at the Etihad next Saturday, 25 November.

He has quickly become a vital member in the Reds attack.
