5 players Liverpool have to sell more than anyone else this summer

Liverpool have a "big summer", as Virgil van Dijk put it, ahead as they look at strengthening Arne Slot's Premier League title-winning squad. The Reds are closing in on the signing of Dutch right wing-back Jeremie Frimpong as Trent Alexander-Arnold's replacement.

It's an exciting time at Anfield amid the club also battling it out with Bayern Munich for Frimpong's teammate Florian Wirtz. The German attacker could be one of three high-profile arrivals, with a deal for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez "on".

While Slot, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards get to work adding some of Europe's finest to the team they are also under pressure to offload some of those struggling for game time on Merseyside. There are also players whose sales could allow the club to press forward with moves for their top targets.

5 players Liverpool MUST sell this summer

Harvey Elliott

Everybody at Anfield knows just how talented Harvey Elliott is having seen him develop under Jurgen Klopp since arriving in the summer of 2021. He's grown from an English teenage midfield prospect into a nifty attacker who can frustrate opposition with his movement.

A nightmare broken foot proved problematic for Elliott after Slot replaced Klopp. He was eased back into action but hasn't claimed a regular starting berth under the Dutch coach, managing five goals and three assists in 28 games across competitions this season.

Mail Sport's Lewis Steele reports that Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing Elliott. It may be time to accept that he won't get the desired game time at Liverpool but the club could use his situation to their advantage.

If the Reds can persuade Leverkusen to part with Wirtz they may be able to negotiate a deal that sees Elliott head to BayArena, lowering the reported £127m asking price. But there's no doubt, especially if the German does join, that the 22-year-old should be off this summer.

Darwin Nunez

It just hasn't worked out for the Uruguayan striker following his £64m move to Liverpool in the summer of 2022. Klopp may have been willing to give the 25-year-old time but Slot looks to have decided to pull the plug and sell this summer.

Nunez hinted at leaving the club with an Instagram post after the trophy parade which read, “Unforgettable. Thank you, Liverpool". He's been linked with Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone reportedly thinks he'd be a good fit, per Spanish outlet AS.

The Reds are thought to be after £38-42m (€45-€50m) for Nunez who managed seven goals and as many assists in 47 games across competitions this season. With the likes of Newcastle United's Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko on the club's radar, he looks destined to depart.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Klopp called Caoimhin Kelleher the "best number two in the world" after his heroics in the 2022 Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea. The Irish goalkeeper was the hero in the penalty shootout victory at Wembley and he's been a fine backup to Alisson Becker.

Kelleher deserves more first-team opportunities but that's not going to happen at Liverpool. Alisson is still proving to be one of, if not, the best goalkeeper in the world and Giorgi Mamardashvili is arriving from Valencia next month.

Brentford have reportedly approached the club over the 26-year-old's availability. The Bees want him as a Mark Flekken replacement amid the Dutch shot-stopper looking set for Leverkusen, per Sky Sports. The Gtech would be an ideal destination for the £20m-rated Irishman.

Konstantinos Tsimikas

It's been obvious for quite some time that Konstantinos Tsimikas won't be Andy Robertson's long-term replacement. The Greek left-back has produced some solid displays but just isn't good enough to fill the Scot's boots in the long run.

The Reds' pursuit of Kerkez suggests they have decided the Hungarian is the man to take over from Robbo. This leaves Tsimikas in a difficult situation and one that needs dealing with because the club surely can't have three left-backs in Slot's squad next season.

Steele reports that Valencia and Lille are interested in the 29-year-old, while Leeds United have been eyeing him. Nottingham Forest and Wolves have previously been keeping tabs. This is great news because if an auction of sorts occurs, the price could go above the £15m valuation of the Greece international.

Jarell Quansah

Perhaps the only setback at Anfield this season has been Jarell Quansah's failure to win Slot over. The English youngster looked like the next big talent to emerge from Kirby but he hasn't reached expectations.

It could be a good opportunity to make some money with the club able to ask for quite a handsome fee given his age and time left on his contract. The Warrington-born centre-back, 22, has four years remaining, but he's not short of interested suitors.

Liverpool-based journalist David Lynch reports that Leverkusen could be in for Quansah which again may come in handy in the Wirtz pursuit. Newcastle were previously interested but long-term admirers Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Dortmund are also circling, per CaughtOffside.
