Alexis Mac Allister’s summer transformation sparks fan backlash

If Liverpool supporters were hoping for a new-look team this summer, well this probably was not what they had in mind.

Fans remain frustrated by the club's inactivity in the transfer market, only signing Víctor Muñoz so far this summer, while negotiations over a move for Bradley Barcola are seemingly progressing very slowly.

After suffering 20 defeats in all competitions last season, the club's most in a single campaign for 33 years, Kopites are hoping that Andoni Iraola's side will look unrecognisable to that of former head coach Arne Slot that slumped to a fifth place finish.

Well, so far, there aren't too many signs that this will be the case, although one player in particular might just be sporting an unrecognisable new-look.

Earlier this week, photos of Alexis Mac Allister emerged showing off his new hair style.

For a few months now, including all throughout the World Cup, the 27 year old had been practically bald, with many realising this meant that he was preparing for a hair transplant. Well, fair to say, Liverpool supporters were not impressed:

• @maayanef: I hope he got the transplant from that guy who did Salah's because that's the only one I've ever seen that actually worked.

It seems unlikely, following the procedure in Buenos Aires, that Mac Allister won't be able to head the ball four two months, as has been suggested.

Nevertheless, the last tweet there is probably the most applicable to reality. Supporters were hoping that Liverpool would be very active in this transfer window but, instead, it seems as though Mac Allister has been more busy in the transplant clinic.

The Reds need to recruit a new centre-back, exacerbated by the fact that Jérémy Jacquet is still yet to feature during pre-season following the shoulder injury suffered in February.

Iraola would also like a new right-back as well as attacking reinforcements, meaning midfield has fallen down the priority list. Given how much else business is done, Richard Hughes may not get to it this summer.

If Curtis Jones does depart, which seems more than plausible, a lot of importance is being placed on the shoulders of teenager Trey Nyoni, as well as Stefan Bajčetić and Wataru Endō, who are both coming back following long-term injuries. Mac Allister is due back on Merseyside on Monday, after the weekend clash with Monaco, and he may look rather different.
