Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has penned his matchday programme notes ahead of the Reds final pre season friendly praising the "quality and experience" of new recruit Ronald Araujo
The summer transfer window is rarely quiet on Merseyside, but Liverpool’s move for Ronald Araujo has caught even the most attentive Kopites off guard.
The Reds have officially completed the signing of the 27-year-old Uruguay international on a season-long loan deal from FC Barcelona.
Crucially, the agreement includes an option to convert the switch into a permanent move next summer for €55 million (£47.14m).
For a player who was wearing the captain's armband at the Nou Camp just last season, securing his services on these terms represents an astute piece of opportunistic business by Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola.
Araujo, who has opted to take the No. 33 shirt vacant since Jordon Ibe’s departure a decade ago becomes the fourth Uruguayan to represent Liverpool, following in the footsteps of Luis Suarez, Sebastian Coates, and former forward Darwin Nunez.

The catalyst for the move came in Catalonia. Following direct talks with Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, Araujo was informed that his starting place could no longer be guaranteed following a decline in his playing time towards the tail end of last season.
Sensing an opportunity, Liverpool’s recruitment team made contact with the player's representatives.
That contact led to a decisive phone call last Wednesday between Iraola and the defender. The Basque manager laid out his tactical vision in clear terms, explaining the exact duty Araujo would hold within the squad: forming a immediate "top-level defensive partnership" alongside club captain Van Dijk.
As a aggressive, physical, right-sided center-half with exceptional recovery speed, Araujo possesses the exact profile needed to replace the presence of Ibrahima Konate.

If Araujo thrives in the Premier League, ÂŁ47.14m for a player of his pedigree will look like a steal in the current market.
