Mohamed Salah left Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 season after nine years on Merseyside, scoring 257 goals and establishing himself as a player the club will never forget,
The Egytian King completed a free transfer to Trabzonspor last Tuesday, penning a two-year deal. He was greeted over 40,000 Trabzonspor fans who packed into Papara Park to welcome him to the side.
Salah will play European football with Trabzonspor next season after they finished third, eight points behind champions Galatasaray. This, along with Trabzon being a predominantly Muslim city is reportedly what attracted the winger to making the move over a switch to the Saudi Pro League.
The Guardian report Salah will earn more than £14.5m per year with his agreement also including 20% of revenue from merchandise sold in his name in what is a lucrative deal for the Liverpool legend.
However, as Salah was stunned to see so many people turn out at his unveiling, he may be more stunned to learn that he will be joined by his former teammate very soon.
Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu revealed on Thursday morning that the former Liverpool striker will feature alongside Salah in attack next season.
“Trabzonspor has reached an agreement with Darwin Núñez. Negotiations are ongoing to finalize the transfer with Al-Hilal!”
The move for Nunez comes after he has struggled for playing time since Karim Benzema’s arrival at Al-Hilal in January. Nunez has been pushed aside and Al-Hilal are keen to offload him to Trabzonspor who believe he can add a new dimension up front.
Trabzonspor have reached a preliminary agreement with Núñez, reportedly worth around €8m per year, a drop from the roughly €20M he currently earns at Al-Hilal.
Last season Nunez collected 10 goal contributions in 1,251 minutes and reports state that his market value has dropped significantly since he left Liverpool for around £46.3M.
The striker was infamous at Liverpool and was consistently mocked for his poor finishing and chaotic playing style. However, he did show glimpses of a world class striker that Trabzonspor will hope to unlock this season.
Núñez and Salah overlapped for three seasons on Merseyside and in Premier League matches where they both featured, Núñez recorded 21 goals and 12 assists in 90 appearances.
A reunion between the pair looks certain and Salah will be delighted to welcome his former teammate in what looks like an exciting project for the Turkish giants.
