Trabzonspor target another Liverpool star to join forces with Mohamed Salah

Following the arrival of Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah, Trabzonspor could reunite him with former team-mate Darwin Núñez.

After a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, the Egyptian left Liverpool after a disappointing 2025/26 season and despite multiple proposals from the MLS and Saudi Arabia, Salah decided on moving to Turkey.

Look at that - a welcome fit for a King.

Trabzonspor don't seem to be stopping there, either. Reports in Turkey suggest that they have now set their sights on Núñez.

Since leaving Liverpool last summer for Saudi club Al-Hilal, Núñez has struggled and made only 24 appearances last season, scoring nine times and registering five assists.

But, after the arrival of Karim Benzema in the January transfer window, La Pantera was omitted from Al-Hilal's league squad, making no further appearances in the league from February until May due to elegibility issues.

Despite this, he joined up with his national team for this summer's World Cup, but in his three appearances failed to score or assist as Uruguay crashed out in the group stages.

The 27-year-old has since been allowed to leave the Saudi Arabian club on loan, with clubs across Europe and the Premier League reportedly interested. Al Hilal are keen to allow the player to demonstrate his value before potentially selling him next summer.

With Salah's arrival in Turkey, links to Trabzonspor have accelerated, and linking up with Salah may reinvigorate the Uruguayan, as they both clearly enjoyed a good relationship together during their time at Liverpool.

Núñez only registered seven assists during his time with the Reds and remarkably, all of them were for goals that Salah scored.

A viral clip captured a wholesome exchange between a supporter and Darwin Núñez. When the fan enthusiastically declared,"You’re the king of Liverpool!", Núñez either misinterpreting the phrasing or showing ultimate team humility smiled and instantly passed the crown, replying:"Liverpool... Mo Salah."

It's not hard to see why Núñez and Salah would want to share the pitch again together.

While there were rumours earlier in the summer linking the Uruguyan with a shock return to Merseyside, those have since been quashed since the Reds have been focusing on bringing wingers to the club.

Links to PSG's Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, as well as prior rumours of bids for Yan Diomande (who has just joined Real Madrid), should've been signs that a return for Núñez was wide of the mark.

The Reds appear to have addressed issues with defensive reinforcements with the expected arrival of Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona, but there is still work to be done to bolster attacking options.
