Former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has taken it upon himself to announce Liverpool’s latest marquee arrival before either club had the chance to release a slick media package.
Taking to X on Saturday, the former Reds frontman posted a picture alongside Ronald Araujo, officially spilling the beans on a move that has had Kopites refreshing their feeds all weekend.

Addressing the 27-year-old Uruguayan centre-back directly, the ex-Liverpool striker wrote:
"I wish you the best in this great club, friend... I'm deeply glad that you can feel what the affection and support of the @LFC fans is like, they are special, and they're going to make you feel it that way, now you're a Red too, from afar always wishing you the best ¡VAMO ARRIBA!"
For supporters, the social media post offered a double dose of warmth reaffirming the bond the Saudi-based forward still holds with the club, while confirming a crucial defensive reinforcement.
Defensive reinforcements arrive
The imminent arrival comes at a critical time for Andoni Iraola’s squad. Having seen Ibrahima Konate depart for Real Madrid on a free transfer and with continuous injury headaches mounting, the backline was looking thin.
Joe Gomez picked up a muscle issue during pre-season, while Conor Bradley remains sidelined with a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury. That left Jeremie Frimpong as the sole fit natural right-back, stretching options thin behind club captain Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet, and Giovanni Leoni.
The 27-year-old Barcelona captain, who made 213 appearances for the Catalan giants and won three La Liga titles, brings elite pedigree to Merseyside. Primarily a central defender who can comfortably cover at right-back, the two-time La Liga Team of the Season inclusion gives the back four immediate authority and depth.
Barca boss Hansi Flick confirmed the exit on Sunday, admitting to reporters that he took the decision to allow his defender to leave Camp Nou because he "did not fit into his tactical system."
The Terms of the Deal
According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer is structured as a season-long loan with Liverpool paying the player's full £300,000-a-week wages—making the incoming defender the second-highest earner at Anfield behind the club captain. Crucially, the deal includes an option to make the move permanent next summer for a fee reported between £47 million and £55 million (€55m).
While The Times' Paul Joyce reports that the Uruguay international has "not been pinpointed as a long-term signing" just yet, his short-term value to the squad is undeniable.
