Why Liverpool fans should be excited about Andoni Iraola's appointment
Despite winning the Premier League title in his first season, things quickly went stale under Slot. Liverpool finished fifth last season, putting in one of the worst title defences in modern English football history, lucky to scrape into the Champions League thanks to the extra place.
Meantime, just one spot and three points below were Bournemouth, with Iraola leading the Cherries into UEFA competition for the very first time. During his three season by the South Coast, he worked wonders, playing an attractive, attacking style of football that the Anfield faithful demand, but were not witnessing for large periods of last season.
Iraola actually lost his first six managerial meetings with Liverpool, before beating Slot's team at Vitality Stadium 3-2 in a thriller in January, now tasked with restoring England's most successful club to pretty recent former glories.
Earning this job is the pinnacle of his coaching career to date, so it'll be interesting to hear what he has to say on day one at the AXA Training Centre, facing the press for the first time and, even at this early stage of pre-season, there is plenty to discuss.
