It was the blockbuster deal that set the football world alight, and now the details are finally starting to emerge.

When Liverpool smashed their club blueprint to secure a statement £123 million deal for one of Europe's most electrifying talents, supporters immediately began imagining how he would fit into Andoni Iraola's frontline.

But while the ink was drying on his paperwork at the AXA Training Centre, it turns out the groundwork for his Anfield arrival was being laid long before the cameras started flashing.

So, who was secretly working behind the scenes to help bring the Frenchman to Merseyside?

The private chats behind a £123 million blockbuster

Navigating a massive high-profile transfer is rarely straightforward, but every major signing usually has a secret cheerleader on the inside.

As negotiations hummed away in the background and anticipation across social media, the player at the centre of it all was receiving some very persuasive messages straight from a familiar face.

Behind closed doors, a fellow Frenchman was already going to work to convince him that Merseyside was the only place to be.

"Sign the contract"

It turns out that French teammate Hugo Ekitike had taken matters into his own hands while talks were ongoing, privately badgering the winger to make the leap to Anfield.

The relentless messaging clearly paid off. Barcola arrives on Merseyside as a massive statement of intent a player blessed with blistering pace in transition, dazzling skill on the ball, and the clinical edge required to thrive under the intense demands of the Premier League.

With his high-profile arrival officially confirmed, the stage is now set for a potential debut under the Friday night lights away at Ipswich.

"I dont know about Jeremy Jacquet, but I was able to talk to Hugo, who i met in the French team and in my old club. He was waiting for me to sign the contract, sending me messages often asking me if I was coming or not. I can't wait to get back together and be able to play with him. I already said that it is done"

It seems that the Liverpool no.22 was very happy after the club had announced the latest arrival, taking to social media Ekitike posted "Welcome Barcola, I have been waiting for you for 3 weeks"

Ekitike did not stop there, posting a second story with a viral clip from a few years ago. Before Liverpool's match with PSG two fans were asked about the PSG attack, they could not remember Barola's name so they referred to him as "broccoli"

When the pair play together they will be an unstoppable force for Premier League defenders, so much fun to watch and devastating going forward.

Hugo Ekitike is still recovering from the injury he picked up, so I am sure he is even more desperate to get back onto the pitch now and play with his French counterpart.

The price tag is massive, the expectations are sky-high, and if the behind-the-scenes text messages are anything to go by, his new teammates are just as excited to see him in a red shirt as the fans are.
