Liverpool's quest for a record-extending 11th Carabao Cup triumph is about to commence. Andoni Iraola's side will enter the competition in the third round in mid-September, but are about to learn the identity of their first opponents.

So, check out our complete guide to the draw, including how to watch, what time it is scheduled to take place, the opponents the Reds can and, crucially, cannot face and more.

When is the Carabao Cup third round draw?

The Carabao Cup third round draw is scheduled to take place at around 10:15pm (BST) on Wednesday 26 August.

How can I watch the Carabao Cup third round draw?

The draw will be live on Sky Sports, following their coverage of the night's four ties, including Preston North End welcoming Everton to Deepdale. It will also be live on the Sky Sports Football Youtube channel, thereby available to all non-subscribers as well as those based anywhere around the world.

The ball numbers are yet to be confirmed; they will be finalised following Wednesday's quarter of fixtures.

When will Carabao Cup third round fixtures take place?

The Carabao Cup third round fixtures will take place during the weeks commencing 7 and 14 September. Due to Liverpool's participation in the UEFA Champions League league phase, their match is guaranteed to be played on either 15, 16 or 17 September.

This places it in between Premier League clashes with Fulham at Anfield and AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Who can Liverpool NOT face in the draw?

To avoid scheduling conflicts with the expanded UEFA competition league phases, England's representatives in the Champions League and Europa League cannot draw each-other in this round.

Thus, Iraola's team know they cannot face Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Sunderland nor Crystal Palace. A pre-draw will determined which of these teams are at home and which are away; this takes place at around 7:20pm (BST).

Who are Liverpool's possible Carabao Cup third round opponets?

This means Liverpool's opponents will be one of the 23 sides to win a second round tie this week, or the UEFA Conference League representatives Brighton & Hove Albion.

17 clubs booked their place in the round three draw on Tuesday night, with four more set do so later on Wednesday, before the final two ties are played, both in West London, on Thursday.
