Liverpool's spending over the last few weeks has given fans plenty to be optimistic about. However, Luis Diaz leaving is painful for everyone.
In many ways, Luis Diaz was one of the catalysts to Liverpool winning the Premier League last season. It's hard to stick out in an attack which features Mohamed Salah, but Diaz did well to keep up last season, amassing 22 goal contributions.
The Colombia international embodied everything it took to be a Liverpool player in an Arne Slot system, giving 100% buy-in and leaving everything out there on the pitch.
Now, though, he'll leave behind a Diaz-shaped hole.
Fabrizio Romano just confirmed Luis Diaz's pending exit
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, the plan is confirmed. Luis Diaz will travel to Germany for his Bayern Munich medical today. If all goes to plan, then he will sign his new deal within the next 24 hours.
In his own words, Romano said: "Plan confirmed for Luis Diaz: new Bayern winger will arrive today in Munich and he’s set to complete medical on Tuesday. Four-year deal to be signed in the next 24h."
Last season, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga by quite some distance. It was quite the turnaround from the previous season, where they surrendered to Bayer Leverkusen. By signing Luis Diaz, the Bavarians will go from strength to strength yet again.
Liverpool's loss is now Bayern Munich's gain
Any Liverpool fan who held hope about this deal falling through is now advised to let go of it. At this stage, transfers rarely fall through.
From today onwards, Diaz is as good as a Bayern player. Given this news, it's pretty much confirmed that he's kicked his final ball for Liverpool.
And look, what a time for Diaz to leave. It's a bittersweet sale, but Liverpool fans will more be upset from a perspective of "man, I can't believe he's gone" rather than "well, this is awful. Where do we go now?"
Diaz's sale is likely a result of Liverpool strengthening their front line already, with more additions expected to occur over the next few weeks. Doesn't make this sale any less painful, of course, but there's at least reassurance.
Leaving as a Premier League champion, we only hope that Diaz won't forget about Liverpool. It's crystal clear that he'll always be a Red, as far as the Kop is concerned.
