Darwin Nunez may have moved on, but Liverpool clearly still means a lot to him as raw video resurfaces on social media.

There is a specific kind of footballer who leaves Liverpool and simply fades into the background of European football. Darwin Nunez was never going to be one of those players.

Whether he was smashing a volley off the crossbar, sprinting 70 yards to press a centre-back in the 89th minute, or celebrating a winner like he had just conquered the continent, the Uruguayan striker lived every single second on the pitch at maximum volume.

So when a short, unguarded video surfaced on social media this week, it caught supporters completely off guard not because of what was said, but because of how effortlessly it brought all those old emotions flooding back.

A short viral fan video shows Darwin Nunez signing a red Liverpool shirt outside a gated house. The supporter asks whether he misses Liverpool. Nunez looks down, smiles, keeps signing and says “yes.” The fan replies that they miss him there too. Nunez thanks him.

The exchange is brief and unguarded, which is why it has been shared as a soft, affectionate moment across the red half of Merseyside and far beyond.

Nunez left Anfield in August 2025 for Saudi club Al-Hilal in a deal worth around £46–53 million. He had arrived from Benfica in 2022 for a club-record fee and stayed three seasons.

The numbers were mixed: 40 goals in 143 appearances, bursts of chaos and brilliance, never quite the consistent No. 9 many expected. Yet in his final campaign, he still collected a Premier League winner’s medal under Arne Slot. That last year, together with his obvious effort and personality, is why a slice of the fanbase kept a soft spot for him after he left.

An unsettled journey and the enduring connection

His time in Saudi Arabia has been unsettled. He scored six league goals in 16 games for Al-Hilal in 2025-26, then lost minutes after Karim Benzema arrived. In August 2026, he joined newly promoted Al-Diriyah on loan and has started well there, with three goals in five league games.

Earlier in 2026, there was talk that he might terminate his Al-Hilal contract and return to Europe. Uruguayan reports even floated a free move back to Liverpool. The club and his representatives publicly played those rumours down. Liverpool had already moved on, signing Alexander Isak and others, and were not in the market to bring him back as first-choice striker.

Nunez himself has never hidden the affection. In earlier interviews, he said he would be lying if he claimed he did not miss Liverpool, the Anfield atmosphere or the dressing room. He has described the club as more than a workplace.

How the fanbase reacted to the clip

The reaction online shows just how deeply Nunez endeared himself to supporters despite the debate that surrounded his time in red.

One fan quoted the tweet saying:

"@tundeennt: Still trying to round my head around why Liverpool let him go"

Another supporter shared their warm memories of his relentless work rate:

"Andre ❀ @sourlacy_: i'll always have a soft spot for Darwin, he's always given 100% in every game he played for us and the fact he still speaks very well of the club says a lot about him 🥹❤️"

Meanwhile, another fan highlighted the sheer passion he brought to every matchday:

"@DavidOfTheS: I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Darwin. Whilst he wasn't the most clinical he gave everything for the club ran himself ragged every game and celebrated every goal like we'd just won a major trophy."

Ultimately, Liverpool's forward line has evolved into a new era under Andoni Iraola, but moments like these serve as a reminder that once a player gives everything for the shirt, Anfield rarely forgets them.
