Wednesday will feature a clash of European heavyweights in the Champions League Round of 16 when Liverpool does battle with Paris Saint-Germain.

At first glance, one would say this is a harsh draw for the Reds after all of their dominance during the UCL league phase this season that included wins over Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan.

With those results in mind, that is probably why Liverpool should still be considered the favorites in this tie. However, there is going to be a lot of talent on the pitch when the action begins so I'm here to go through some of the big names to keep an eye on.

Bradley Barcola - PSG, FW

The young French sensation is a dynamic attacking threat that can make any defense pay for their mistakes.

The 22-year old has 17 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season and he has leveled up much the same way we have seen Ryan Gravenberch do for Liverpool. He's playing with a newfound confidence that has enabled him to become a focal point in the PSG attack.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate are going to need to be fully engaged defensively whenever Barcola is on the pitch as he can be a matchwinner if given the chance.

If they are to create something, there is a good chance that he was at the heart of it and has a good shot at finishing whatever he started.

Luis Diaz - Liverpool, FW

I say Diaz, but this very well could be Cody Gakpo. However, I'm going with Diaz as he was at his creative best in the win over Newcastle in the midweek.

Another significance of Diaz playing well against PSG would be it meant the supremely talented Achraf Hakimi would need to focus more on his defensive work and not bomb forward where he can do so much damage against any opponent.

Lucho playing with confidence on the ball can create so much space for the others in attack which takes the Liverpool frontline to the next level.

His tricky dribbling prowess puts defenses under pressure and his direct running forces them into split decisions they might not normally make which usually pays off in the end for the Reds.

Arne Slot will need him fit and firing whether that is starting or off the bench.

Ousmane Dembele - PSG, FW

We have yet another winger on this list as Dembele is having one of the best statistical seasons of his career having scored 26 goals across all comps in 2024/25.

Playing on the right-flank, he will be the responsibiity of Andy Robertson to take care of. Just like Diaz can pin back Hakimi, so Dembele could do the same to Robbo if he is at his top level.

Liverpool's biggest defensive weakness this season has been when their fullbacks get attacked wide with pace and precision. Dembele is the perfect player for Manager Luis Enrique to to utilize to exploit this tactical plot point.

This tie could very well have a lot of goals written in the stars, so leaving off a player that has been so prolific from the wing seems strange. The entire left side of the Liverpool squad is going to have to be on high alert to make sure he does not wreck the game.

Dominik Szoboszlai - Liverpool, M

Obviously Mohamed Salah and Goncalo Ramos are also players to watch, but I wanted to give the spotlight to another player that could be a significant X-factor in this matchup.

Szoboszlai falls directly into that category as he has become one of the most influential players in the Reds lineup and he has begun adding goals to his game which makes him extra dangerous.

His box-to-box tenacity and energy will be needed to control the heart of the park against a talented PSG side. If he can maintain the high-level of recent weeks, it might make Slot's side unstoppable over the two legs.

He brings a creative and direct element just behind the front three and his ability to float around the final 1/3 makes him a viable threat whenever Liverpool is on the move going forward.

Vitinha and Joao Neves are two great midfielders for the French champions, but a high-flying Szobo would go a long way towards neutralizing their impact on proceedings.
