When Federico Chiesa traded Juventus for Anfield, the arrival of the Italian international was heralded as a low-risk, high-reward swoop designed to add elite pedigree and tactical flexibility to Liverpool’s frontline. However, the move has failed to ignite, with the 28-year-old struggling to find consistency or make a lasting impression on Merseyside.
According toThe Athletic’s Gregg Evans, "Federico Chiesa is still expected to seal a Liverpool exit this summer, though any potential move remains entirely dependent on incoming arrivals at Anfield."
As a result, Liverpool are open to letting Chiesa depart during the current window, acknowledging that the move has not panned out as planned for either party.
Yet, the club’s hierarchy have put a firm condition on any potential exit: Chiesa will only be granted permission to leave if suitable replacements are secured first.
With squad depth already severely stretched in the wake of Mohamed Salah’s departure, the Reds cannot afford to trim their attacking options further without bringing in fresh blood at the top end of the pitch.
Mohamed Salah’s exit has left Liverpool’s attacking setup severely imbalanced. Federico Chiesa stands as the club's only experienced right-winger, creating an obvious depth issue that needs resolving.
Meanwhile, the Reds are spoiled for choice on the opposite flank. With Cody Gakpo and star Rio Ngumoha already vying for minutes on the left, Liverpool further stacked that side by snapping up VĂctor Muñoz from Osasuna in a ÂŁ34.5 million deal this summer.
Liverpool have been linked with multiple right wingers, including Yan Diomande. Paris Saint-Germain reportedly has a verbal agreement with the player. However, negotiations between PSG and RB Leipzig are ongoing.
If Diomande is to join the Champions League winners, then Liverpool have already been linked with other targets. Haissem Hassan of Real Oviedo could be an option. He would want to leave the Spanish side after they were relegated from La Liga last season.
Liverpool have been linked with a number of right wingers
Hassan has just impressed at the World Cup for Egypt. He even got an assist against Argentina, setting up Mostafa Zico to put the African side 2-0 ahead in the 67th minute.
However, a dramatic late fightback saw La Albiceleste pull off a 3-2 victory thanks to three goals in 13 minutes from Cristian Romero, Lionel Messi, and Enzo Fernández to progress to the quarter-finals. Argentina eventually made it all the way to the final, where they fell 1-0 in extra time to Spain.
Liverpool face competition from Villarreal and Celtic for Hassan's services.
Another right winger Liverpool have been linked with is Pedro Neto of Chelsea. His Premier League experience would make him an attractive option for Andoni Iraola.
Neto could be available, as Chelsea already have Estevao as a right-winger. Also, Geovany Quenda has just arrived at the club from Sporting CP. Quenda can play right wing and right back, so he is perfectly suited to Xabi Alonso's system.
One of these signings would free Chiesa to leave Liverpool. He has lacked game time since he joined the club in 2024. Chiesa does have a Premier League winners' medal, but in the 2024/25 campaign, when Liverpool won it, he only played six times in the competition.
Despite him soon to be available, there has not been much speculation on where Chiesa could go next. He has been linked with a return to Italy or a move to Turkey in the past. Salah's move to Besiktas has reportedly broken down.
Therefore, the Super Lig side could sign Chiesa instead. He has also been linked with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce previously, as well as multiple Serie A clubs.
