Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States continues. This is the second match of the Reds' three-game serious in the US, taking on Wrexham at the iconic Yankee Stadium. Despite being located just 40 miles apart, these two clubs have only ever met three times. Their most-recent clash was in a League Cup quarter-final in 1978, with Kenny Dalglish bagging a hat-trick at the Racecourse.

After making a winning start to their American adventure, can Andoni Iraola's side make it two wins out of two? On Saturday, a youthful Liverpool team beat a rather more senior Sunderland side 4-2 at Geodis Park in Tennessee. Youngsters Kieran Morrison and Lewis Koumas were on target in Nashville, while Federico Chiesa was also on target, but the goal of the evening was scored by Dominik Szoboszlai, lashing home from long-range in trademark fashion.
Thus, a positive start for Iraola, who will be hoping for more of the same when his team travel to New York City for this mid-week fixture. Due to injuries and World Cup-related unavailability, the Liverpool team will once again consist of both youngsters and senior players with a point to prove. Nevertheless, whoever Iraola deploys, the Reds in attendance at Yankee Stadium will be expecting to see a victory.
Wrexham though will be no push-overs. Phil Parkinson's team are still unbeaten in pre-season, first drawing 0-0 with Wisła Kraków, before beating Manchester United 1-0 in Finland, with Sam Smith the match-winner. His namesake may sing "I'm Not The Only One", but on this occasion Smith was the only scorer at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
The Red Dragons then made a winning start to their U.S. tour last weekend, beating Premier League Leeds United 3-2 in Tampa. Kieffer Moore broke the deadlock inside 60 seconds, before Bailey Cadamarteri and Smith again were on target at Raymond James Stadium in Florida.
Of course, Wrexham have become one of the most popular clubs in the United States following the takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as well as the accompanying documentary. Under this ownership, the Red Dragons did achieve back-to-back-to-back promotions, going from the National League to the EFL Championship in no time at all. However, their streak did come to an end last time round, finishing seventh, one spot outside the play-off places. They will though reach the Premier League sooner rather than later.
Wrexham's competitive campaign begins in just nine days, travelling to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, before commencing their league season ten days later against Cardiff City. Thus, Parkinson's side are further along in pre-season than Iraola's team, hence why this will be a tough test for Liverpool in the Bronx.

Joe Gomez sustained a serious muscle injury during the weekend win over Sunderland, thereby set to spend weeks on the sidelines. Meantime, despite being with the squad in America, none of Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endō nor Hugo Ekitiké are available to feature.
Jérémy Jacquet is still being protected, after sustaining a shoulder injury in February, but Iraola has confirmed that the new signing will be available for Sunday's clash with Leeds, albeit not here.
Elsewhere, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Cody Gakpo have begun pre-season training at AXA Training Centre this week, rather than heading to the states. Víctor Muñoz and Alexis Mac Allister are also on holiday, after their respective national teams reached the World Cup Final.
In more positive news, Ryan Gravenberch, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak could feature, having joined up with the squad earlier this week. Teenagers Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Mor Talla Ndiaye are set to start at centre-back. Fellow youngsters James McConnell, Kieran Morrison and Will Hughes all started in Nashville, so how many will keep their places here?

For Phil Parkinson, considering this is their penultimate pre-season fixture before the serious business begins, his lineup is a lot more settled. After scoring against both Manchester United and Leeds, will Sam Smith return to the starting lineup, hoping to displace fellow weekend scorer Bailey Cadamarteri?
Elsewhere, 6 ft 5 in target man striker Kieffer Moore will be a handful for Liverpool's inexperienced defence, while Arthur Okonkwo is one of the best young goalkeepers in the country. He made his international debut for Nigeria in May, keeping clean sheets against Zimbabwe and Jamaica.
