Hugo Ekitike hits the ground running at Liverpool, but tougher tests await

It has been a dream start to Hugo Ekitike's Liverpool career so far. The sky is the limit, but patience is also encouraged.

French striker Hugo Ekitike signed for Liverpool from German side Eintracht Frankfurt for close to £70 pounds with add-ons, in a deal that raised a few eyebrows with fans of both Liverpool and their Premier League rivals.

Ekitike arrived with an almighty load of pressure and not only did he shine with the opener in the Community Shield at Wembley, he marked his league and Anfield debut with a goal and assist in an all action performance.

The Pressure is Real

That fee alone brings pressure, as does the loss of three starting forwards this summer, especially one in the saddest of circumstances, walking into a club dealing with such a devastating loss.

He also has had to contend with rumours of incoming arrivals in his position, not least the speculation of superstar forward Alexander Isak.

Hugo put all of that beside him and has produced two excellent performances thus far.

His fine low finish opened the scoring at Wembley before he repeated the feat an Anfield, showing terrific guile as he rode a pair of challenges before slotting home.

He also showed his talent for hold up play as he gave Cody Gakpo time to make his way into the box and finish for two-nil.

The sky certainly looks the limit for Ekitike but everyone including him knows the value of keeping yourself grounded and not allowing yourself to get too confident.

The young forward still has plenty of obstacles to overcome but he certainly has the tools to do it.

Alexander Isak and the rest of the transfer window

It can't be easy as a big summer signing to see persistent rumours of a rival to your position.

Alexander Isak is one of the world's best strikers and the Anfield faithful are desperate to see the big Swedish forward line up in the famous red strip.

But Ekitike has lots of his side to combat this. Competition breeds determination, probably best proven by Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz last season, who both pushed themselves to their best personal seasons last year.

The Frenchman also has adaptability on his side, more than willing to drive into wide areas and with his deceptive pace and agility, he is capable of operating from the wing from the start.

Liverpool are short in wide areas having let players move on and there is plenty of room for an adaptable forward.

The Premier League physicality

Although he has dealt with it very well so far, the Premier League is the true striker litmus test.

Even amongst those who have had solid debuts or early runs of form, the demands of English top level football is unlike anything else.

Ekitike most certainly has the physical attributes to handle what the Premier League can throw at him.

As well as being a rangy 6 foot 3 inches, the forward is incredibly quick and agile, allowing him to both fend off heavy challenges and skip away from them.

His strength and pace helped him ride the challenges against Bournemouth, before seeing him slot home.
