Just a few seasons ago, it appeared as if Liverpool had their new age attack in place. Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino had both departed and it was Luis Diaz and the newly signed Darwin Nunez that were expected to lead the Reds attack well into the next decade alongside Mohamed Salah.
Yet, as we stand here freshly into the 2025/26 season, only Salah remains from either of those forward trios.
The unforeseen and tragic passing of Diogo Jota has robbed us of another key contributor up top over the last 4 seasons.
A whirlwind of change
We have gone from Jurgen Klopp overseeing the aforementioned groups above, to having Arne Slot work in his own attacking setup following some big money arrivals.
Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz were key contributors at various points during their Reds career, with Darwin fading at the end while Lucho's best season would be his last with the club.
Nunez scored some brilliant goals including against Real Madrid in the Champions League, a worldie in a cup tie at Bournemouth and his heroics against Newcastle a few seasons ago with the Reds down a man.

When he scored, he sure made them memorable, you have to give him that. For a long time, Diaz was beloved for his work rate more than his end product.
However, he snatched 17 goals in 2024/25 as he seemed to turn a corner in front of goal. However, nobody will soon forget his lung busting run against Manchester City when he carried it 65 yards and deleted Kyle Walker at the end.
Now, both those players were sold in the summer for differing reasons. The club wanted to maximize their profits on a Diaz sale at peak value, while the Nunez experiment had run its course in England.
It's not often a team wins the league and completely overhauls their attack, but that is where we currently stand right now.
Fresh faces ready to lead the charge
Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz are all big-money arrivals. Isak and Wirtz were record setting transfers at the time each of their deals were completed.
Add into the mix the teenage phenom Rio Ngumoha and it's a totally different attacking group joining Salah and fellow incumbent Cody Gakpo.
As we have seen, Ekitike has hit the ground running, scoring in 3 of his first 4 appearances for the club and he already looks like a real bargain. He's also gotten in on the creative side of things as his positional versatility is something Slot loves.

His future looks extremely bright if he can keep building on the solid foundation he's built. While Wirtz has not recorded a goal or assist yet (He would have with better finishing luck from his mates), there is little doubt he is going to be a huge hit.
Isak might be the most complete striker Liverpool have had since Luis Suarez or Fernando Torres. He's Premier League proven and should be eager to prove his doubters wrong.
Ngumoha is already a matchwinner following his sublime strike to take down Newcastle at St. James Park. His ceiling might be limitless if brought along correctly.
A terrifyingly versatile attack
These new faces that have been added to the mainstays of the Liverpool attack have given Slot a lot of different ways he can use different players.
Gakpo, Ekitike and Wirtz can all play wide left or even through the middle. Wirtz might be a false 9, but he could still do a great job in that hole.
Isak has power through the middle but has no problem dropping deeper to get on the ball and letting others cut ahead as needed. He also has the capability to drift wide to create more room and chances for himself and others.

Wirtz has some of the best passing range in the world and his close control is next-level so he can make magic from almost any situation he is in. Salah can score or create a goal from anywhere as we have seen for 8 seasons now.
Lastly, Ngumoha plays with a confidence that belies his years and his dribbling prowess has already proven difficult for defenders to deal with.
Best is yet to come
Following the Deadline Day acquisition of Isak, Liverpool fully completed their attacking revamp and are now well positioned to have this area of the pitch under control for years to come.
With the amount of on-pitch variety and perfect blend of youth and experience, this feels like a more long-term answer then it did just after Nunez arrived.
There will be some growing pains in terms of finding the right selections and who works better together, but Slot has a wealth of riches at his disposal.
Federico Chiesa has not been mentioned in this article yet and he could still play a role at some point as well, as we have already seen.
Once the kinks have been worked out, the Liverpool attack could be the most terrifying in all of Europe. Change is hard sometimss, especially when it happens all at once. But sometimes, it all works perfectly and you come out the other side stronger for it.
Liverpool's attack is stronger now then they were four months ago and that's saying a lot.
