Liverpool came into the Etihad on Sunday and executed their gameplan to utter perfection. By giving up more of the ball the Reds still found a way to dominate proceedings through effort, discipline and more on the way to a 2-0 win.
The goals came from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai in the first half and that proved to be more than enough to get the job done.
With that being said, let's see how the Liverpool players rated in victory.
Alisson Becker - 6.5/10 - He was not asked to make a lot of difficult saves and the few shots he faced he was in perfect position. His favorite kind of clean sheet I'm sure.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6.5/10 - He was constantly under duress from Jeremy Doku who he struggled to stay in front of all night. However, his passing range and forward intent were better than we've seen lately.
Ibrahima Konate - 7/10 - Spent a lot of his time cutting out Doku crosses at the near post after TAA was blown by. His partnership with VVD continues to blossom into something special. 0
Virgil van Dijk - 8/10 - His vocal leadership was very evident throughout this one as he had them organized at all times. Dominated in the air as well with several headed clearances.
Andy Robertson - 6/10 - Not a bad day nor was it his best work. Got forward often but lacked any real final threat. Struggled at times with Savinho himself defensively.
Alexis Mac Allister - 6.5/10 - The match did not call for a lot of wha Macca does best. He pressed well and move the ball along nicely but did not leave a huge impact on things.
Ryan Gravenberch - 7/10 - Better but not all the way back to his brilliant best. Had to shade towards TAA often to help cover Doku, and cut out some balls nicely. However, not a virtuoso performance.
Dominik Szoboszlai - 8.5/10 - A goal and an assist from the Hungarian in a match winning display we saw before against this same side in December. His engine was immaculate and he was all over the pitch
Mohamed Salah - 8.5/10 - Yet another goal and assist for our No. 11 as he continues to thrive. Was always a danger on the break and came close to a few more assists. So, so very good all game.
Luis Diaz - 6/10 - Had a nice shot on goal but otherwise could not contribute a final tally in this one. It wasn't for lack of trying as he carried at the City defense often.
Curtis Jones - 6.5/10 - Had a goal chalked off for offsides but was flowing around in a free No. 10 role well throughout. Tried to get things moving forward whenever he could.
SUBS:
Wataru Endo - 6/10 - Cut out a few passes and crosses after coming on.
Cody Gakpo - 6/10 - Didn't have a lot of chances to get forward as City chased a late goal.
Kostas Tsimikas - 6/10 - Saw things out defensively.
Jarell Quansah - N/A - Seconds to work with.
Harvey Elliott - N/A - Also no time to do anything.
