Anfield produced another magical European night on Wednesday as Liverpool overcame a very determined Atletico Madrid 3-2, courtesy of more late magic, this time a 92nd minute winner.
Two early goals, including a terrific effort from Mohamed Salah, had things looking like this would be a breeze. That was not the case as Diego Simeone has drilled his will into his squad and they battled and fought.
The Reds could have put the match away with better finishing on the break but they got the winning goal in the end to begin the new Champions League campaign. How did the Liverpool players rate?

Alisson Becker - 6.5/10 - He was quick off his line in this one and cut out a lot of dangerous balls in the box. Hard to fault him for their second goal that came off a wicked deflection.
Jeremie Frimpong - 6/10 -The Dutch wingback made his starting return from injury and looked fine, but was not his normal electric self. He flashed a few times in attack and was serviceable on defense.
Ibrahima Konate - 6.5/10 - The Frenchman was in a battle all night long against the Atleti forwards, but he did a solid job patrolling his areas and cleaning up at the back. The slow trend towards his elite levels continues.
Virgil van Dijk 7.5/10 - Scored the winner with a wonderful header in a high-pressure situation that he thrives in. He was cutting out crosses and passes all evening. Great showing from the skipper.
Andy Robertson 7/10 - The Scotland captain was given the nod for this marquee match and he delivered a rock-solid display. Was sound defensively and got forward when he could. A pro's pro, Robbo.
Ryan Gravenberch - 8/10 - He was brilliant in the midfield both covering the back four but also driving forward to get an attack going. Got the assist for Salah's goal after a good interchange between the two. Superb player.
Dominik Szoboszlai - 7/10 - Another strong showing from our No. 8 as his relentless energy and pressing were key to the brilliance early on. He looked comfortable back in the midfield and his great corner was headed in for the win.
Florian Wirtz - 7.5/10 - This might have been the best performance in a Liverpool shirt for Wirtz who was at his influential best throughout this one. His link-up play with the forwards, namely Isak, was very encouraging.
Mohamed Salah - 7/10 - He was directly involved in the first two goals early on with the second showcasing his world class ability that we have come to expect from him. Came inches away from scoring a beautiful curler as well.
Alexander Isak - 6.5/10 - A solid debut for a player that is clearly short on match fitness. As he grew into the game we saw glimpses of the player he is. A few great turns to get shots away and a strong 1-2 with Wirtz almost created a goal.
Cody Gakpo - 6/10 - He was fine for the night, but not his most memorable work ever in a Liverpool shirt.
SUBS
Hugo Ekitike - 6/10 - He fluffed a few clear chances late on as Liverpool were trying to put the result to bed. Will be an adjustment seeing fewer starts going forward.
Conor Bradley - 6.5/10 - Brought good fight and tenacity to the defense after coming on for Frimpong. Still a great player that is not afraid of any moment on the pitch.
Alexis Mac Allister - 6/10 - Was not able to dictate much from the midfield after coming on and was unlucky to deflect in their second goal. Better nights to come from him.
Rio Ngumoha - 6/10 - A few enticing dribbles but did not bring much otherwise in his European debut.
Milos Kerkez - N/A - Relived Robbo late on before the final chaos.
