Liverpool predicted Starting XI for Premier League match versus Ipswich Town

With another huge Premier League game on the horizon, let’s take a look at the team that Arne Slot could field versus Ipswich Town.

The Reds once again face a tight turnaround from a midweek outing, after the Reds secured their progression to the Champions League last 16 with a win over Lille.

Arne Slot made four changes to the team that faced Brentford last Saturday, and is likely set-up to do something similar ahead of the visit of the Tractor Boys.

Lets take a look at how Liverpool could lineup on Saturday.

Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker

Defenders: Kostas Tsimikas, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold

Midfielders: Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai

Forwards: Cody Gakpo, Mo Salah, Luis Diaz

Probable Substitutes: Caoimhin Kelleher, Andy Robertson, Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, Trey Nyoni, Harvey Elliott, Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa

Alisson starts in goal as he continues to get himself back to full match sharpness following the hamstring strain that he sustained earlier in the season.

I vacillated between Tsimikas and Andy Robertson for the left-back position in this match, before finally selecting Tsimikas. It seems that at this moment in time, Slot trusts Tsimikas more.

However, the Greek did play in midweek and last weekend against Brentford, but with a dead rubber against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League to follow this game, Slot might already have his eye on giving that one to Robertson.

Virgil van Dijk is a shoo-in at left centre-back. Ibrahima Konate, on return from injury was left on the bench on Tuesday night, seemingly with Ipswich in mind.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will likely return to the side. The Scouser has been used sparingly since his disastrous performance against Manchester United, with Conor Bradley playing the majority of the game on Tuesday.

Ever-present in any half-important Liverpool match this season, Ryan Gravenberch will look to continue his stellar season so far.

Like Gravenberch, Curtis Jones was substituted off at half-time against Lille. However, Jones seemed to be carrying a knock in the dying embers of the first-half.

Therefore Jones might not be fit enough to start on Saturday. Alexis Mac Allister who only played one half against Lille will likely join Gravenberch in deep-lying midfield, while the in-form Dominik Szoboszlai will likely keep his place as the advanced midfielder.

The front three were also cause for consternation. Mo Salah is the first name on the team sheet, but the other two are more debatable.

Darwin Nunez was always likely to start versus Lille, even without his heroics in the final minutes against Brentford. The mercurial Uruguayan did not set the world alight midweek, so that leaves the door open for Diaz.

Barring a miraculous return for Diogo Jota, I think Diaz will likely get the nod over Nunez, as Liverpool will look to turn Ipswich’s ungainly defence in every direction.

Cody Gakpo did not play a minute of the Lille match, and is arguably Liverpool’s most in-form attacker, thus will likely start against Ipswich.

Bradley should make the bench after being substituted off for tiredness against Lille.

Harvey Elliott will look to make an impact from the bench like so many times this season following his goal midweek.

Trey Nyoni might make the bench in the absence of Curtis Jones, after he was fielded among the subs against Tottenham Hotspur in December.
