Liverpool's midfield stalwart is the subject of transfer interest from Newcastle

There is another Liverpool player with over 200 appearances that could join Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson out the door this summer.

As we inch closer to the conclusion of this season for Liverpool, we are going to enter into yet another transformative summer for the club. There are already some club legends confirmed to be on the way out in Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.

However, it's likely they won't be the only two departing Anfield as the club continues to reshape its side for the next generation of talent.

Arne Slot, if retained for next season, will surely be looking for some fresh faces throughout the squad, which means some players will need to be moved. One of those candidates is Curtis Jones.

Liverpool open to selling our No. 17

Jones, who will be entering the final year of his contract at the start of next season, has been the subject of several high-profile transfer threads in recent times. The interest of newly crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan in January never saw a move take place, but now more familiar sides are showing interest.

Per reports from TeamTalk, Newcastle United are seen as strong contenders for Jones' signature over the summer. It's reported the Magpies have put the first steps into motion on a potential deal.

Aston Villa and Tottenham are also both clubs that are credited with an interest in the Scouse midfielder who has spent his entire professional career with Liverpool.

Jones has fallen down the midfield pecking order this season with the addition of Florian Wirtz, and lately has appeared more often at right-back than in the engine room each week.

it's for that reason why the player might be seeking an opportunity to ply his trade elsewhere to best showcase his skills as a true midfield asset. The 25-year old has played 45 times for the Reds this season, so he has had no shortage of chances, however his G/A return of 4 leaves a bit to be desired.

Now might be the best time for Liverpool to cash in if they are ever going to.

Stalled talks not helping

While potential talks over a new contract to stay at Anfield were previously discussed, they have seemingly slowed down to a near halt. The Reds don't want to lose yet another key player on a free transfer, which has instigated their willingness to enter into sale talks for the lad.

With several top clubs showing interest, it's possible Liverpool could stoke a bidding war and squeeze every penny of value in a potential sale for Jones, which would be welcome as he recently surpassed 200 appearances for the club.

His versatility on the pitch and familiarity with the club and city off it, are great assets to have, but if a new deal cannot be agreed, selling might be the prudent thing to do.

Ideally, contract negotiations would resume and something would get hashed out so Curtis Jones can have another 200 showings in Red, but if Newcastle or others push hard enough, it'll be hard to resist.
