Kopites understood the challenges Liverpool faced while winning the Premier League during the pandemic season, and the streets echoed that sentiment.

Although the Reds ended their 30-year wait for a domestic title, the lingering disappointment in Merseyside was that players and fellow Reds couldn’t celebrate together at Anfield due to lockdowns.

Sunday, that regret was finally set free. Laughter, applause, and appreciation filled the stands as the fans became witnesses to the championship moment.

Having secured the title with four games to spare, Liverpool concluded their 2024-25 Premier League campaign on an imperfect note after drawing 1-1 with Crystal Palace.

While the Reds’ late-season performance (two losses and two draws) may appear sluggish, they still deserve praise for their overall efforts throughout the season—not only for their revitalized drive that saw them dominate the standings for much of the year but also for reshaping the title narrative under first-year manager Arne Slot, making the club’s future look brighter.

Narrative Shifts When Slot Believes in the Glorious Destiny

After Liverpool's shocking 3-4 defeat to Man United in the FA Cup, the humiliating loss at Old Trafford signaled a reckless late-season slide that year, causing them to lose their standing dominance.

This past season, Liverpool has held its top position since reaching the pinnacle, widening its points lead while Arsenal and others pursued.

Earlier in the season, Liverpool avenged their defeat to Man United with a decisive 3-0 victory. Slot expressed that this win made him a believer in his team's title-winning potential.

Beat them 3-0 in their stadium when we expected them to be top six, it was 'OK we can compete for the league this season," Slot told BBC Sports. He also mentioned that their 2-0 victory over Man City further convinced him Liverpool could win the title.

Liverpool commenced the season under the leadership of Arne Slot, who took over from Jürgen Klopp after a celebrated decade-long stint.

From the beginning, Slot focused on positional versatility and high-press intensity, diverging from Klopp’s gegenpressing approach in favor of a more fluid build-up style.

Initially, critics doubted whether this shift could lead to trophies, but Slot silenced them by guiding the team to a remarkable 26-game unbeaten streak in the league.

Following some early setbacks, like a frustrating goalless first half against Ipswich, the team swiftly adapted to Slot’s expectations, showcasing sharper transitions and dynamic midfield play.

By April, Liverpool had effectively dominated the Premier League title race, securing the championship with four games left, which reflected their tactical supremacy.

A Promising Future

While Liverpool’s main team is striving to achieve vital wins in the title race, academy graduate Connor Bradley has also had a breakout season.

Slot’s readiness to rotate players and trust in the younger talent is promising for Liverpool’s future competitiveness.

Bradley exemplifies why he could be crucial next season, as he is anticipated to take over Trent Alexander-Arnold's position after his departure this summer.

Additionally, the contract extensions for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, the core contributors to Liverpool’s recent achievements, significantly boost team morale during the title chase and beyond.

This suggests wise management decisions regarding maintaining these key players and the ambition to seek further victories.

Slot’s strategic adjustments to Salah’s position on the field have allowed the Egyptian international, poised to become a Liverpool legend, to reach new career heights.

With a record-equaling 47 goal involvements that Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer achieved and a PL Golden Boot (29 goals) awarded, Salah peaked at the age of 32.

Neither age nor pressure seem to affect Salah or van Dijk. The Dutch captain’s elite defensive skills, in partnership with goalkeeper Alisson Becker and the defensive lineup, resulted in 14 clean sheets this season (with nine last year).

His undeniable leadership ensures the team retains a strong foundation as Liverpool progresses toward future domestic challenges and continental competitions.

This season, under Slot’s reform, Alexis Mac Allister captured the essence of the squad’s mindset by stating that this title is “just the beginning of something great,” which embodies the collective ambition to surpass limits.

With Champions League qualification secured well in advance and positive developments in European play, including breaking a 15-year winless drought against Real Madrid, Liverpool heads into the 2025–26 season with confidence and momentum.

The upcoming summer transfer window will be vital, and Liverpool is stepping up as a pioneer in the transfer market after remaining silent last year.

Other than getting Netherlands international Jeremie Frimpong inked on to a contract, the negotiation with his Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz is also going well. Most of us would love to see how the duo brings their Leverkusen's 2024 title-run spirit to Anfield.

The Reds have emerged as a hungry contender, actively seeking reinforcements as they pursue Bournemouth's standout defender, Milos Kerkez, who was named in The Athletic’s best XI of the season.

The club’s swift response following Alexander-Arnold’s exit and other possible departures demonstrates its excellent execution and commitment to achieving more.

More to Come

Liverpool’s 2024–25 title under Arne Slot wasn’t just a one-off triumph but a springboard for what’s next: a vibrant and innovative system steered by sophisticated leaders and buoyed by breakout youngsters, while smart additions and more to come ensure depth, unity and an exciting future.
