Liverpool's pre-season has recently made the headlines for the wrong reasons after a spat between Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Kostas Tsimikas over the captain's armband. However, one positive has been 23-year-old Calvin Ramsay getting game time.

Ramsay replaced Jeremie Frimpong in the 67th minute in Liverpool's first game this summer against Sunderland. He then started against Wrexham, with Frimpong replacing him in the 62nd minute. It was after the match with the Welsh side that Szoboszlai and Jones clashed after the Hungarian had given the armband to Tsimikas.

Speaking to Liverpool's official website, Ramsay opened up on the club's time in the United States. "It's been good. I've played with quite a few of the young players in the U21s and things like that over the last couple of years, so I know them quite well. They're obviously all top players and some of them have been out on loan and had really good loans and gained first-team experience. They've settled in well and they've trained well."

The right-back has played just four times in competitive matches for the Reds. However, Ramsay has experience representing Aberdeen before his move to Anfield. Whilst at Liverpool, he has also been sent on loan to Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and Kilmarnock.

Ramsay gave an insight into what it is like working with the new manager, Andoni Iraola, and his coaching staff. "I've enjoyed it. It's really intense and he wants us constantly pressing and being aggressive and being able to defend and attack. It's been good – I’ve enjoyed it. It's obviously only been a few weeks so hopefully I can stay here for a little bit longer and keep working with him and keep learning and get better." This shows that Ramsay

Liverpool play Leeds United today at 9 pm UK time in Chicago. Ramsay is expected to feature again in this fixture after already impressing this pre-season. "It's been nice. That's obviously the plan when you come here. You want to play minutes and try to do as well as you can. I got an assist in the first game [against Sunderland], which was nice, and then I played quite a bit in the other game [against Wrexham] as well, which was good. Then the last game [against Leeds], hopefully I get some more."

With Conor Bradley currently out with a knee injury, Ramsay has grasped the opportunity to play this summer. When Liverpool return from the U.S., they will play friendlies against AS Monaco and Como at Anfield. Then their Premier League season will start when they face Newcastle United at St. James' Park on August 23.

Iraola will likely need Ramsay in the upcoming campaign, especially as Bradley's return is currently unknown. Ramsay's ability to play right-wing-back as well as right-back makes him a like-for-like alternative to Frimpong. However, Iraola does favor playing a flat back four in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Therefore, Ramsay will be used more in his favored position.

There are no current transfer rumors of Liverpool bringing in another right back. Also, there are no links to Ramsay going on loan again. Therefore, the player who has one cap for Scotland's future at Anfield looks bright.
