Surprisingly, Wharton was left out of Thomas Tuchel's England roster for the World Cup. This is despite the midfielder playing in three of the Three Lions' last four games.

Pressure is on Slot to get his side to perform after many big-money signings, such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, have underperformed.
Wharton could fill in alongside Ryan Gravenberch in Liverpool's midfield. He could also be the defensive midfielder, which would allow the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister to get forward.
Gravenberch is a quality defensive midfielder, but Liverpool's only other option in the position right now is Wataru Endo, who is now 33. The Reds also have Stefan Bajcetic, but he missed the entire campaign due to surgery.
Signing Wharton, who is just 22 and hungry to prove himself, is what Liverpool needs. Missing out on the World Cup would hurt Wharton, but it can be used as extra motivation to improve his performance.
He will no doubt add to his four England caps in the future. Wharton could become a dominant presence in Liverpool's midfield for years to come. He is an excellent passer of the ball, and his ability to read the game sets him above many other Premier League midfielders.
Wharton began his career at Blackburn Rovers before joining Palace in 2024. He has also been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid, so Liverpool will have to move swiftly to secure his services.
