Curtis Jones
The next player in these rankings is a local lad, one of our best Academy products in recent years. Jones has steadily worked his way up through the Liverpool ladder.
He has gotten better each and every season. This hit a crescendo halfway through this season when his consistently high-level performances in the midfield made him a regular starter. Cruelly, an injury derailed all of his momentum and he looked a shell of himself upon his return.
Jones is a fine player there is no doubt. Yet, he just missed being in the Top 15 of my recent player power rankings.
He does several things good or above average, but he has no elite skillset At least, not yet. He had 8 G/A this past season from 36 total appearances. That is an okay return, but you probably want it closer to 12-15.
At 23-years old Jones still has room to grow. Having said that, if you look at the situation, he has fallen behind fellow youngster Harvey Elliott for example.
Jones will need a strong season from start to finish in Year 1 under Arne Slot, otherwise, he may find himself becoming replaceable far sooner than anyone would have thought.
