3 Liverpool players that will benefit from squad rotation going forward

There are a slew of Liverpool players that have yet to make a mark this season, but future rotation is going to be a key to unlocking several of them.

When Liverpool returns from the international break, they will be playing a lot more matches than we have seen so far. To this point, it has been weekend to weekend and nothing more.

As a result, the Starting XI has largely been the same for each Premier League match thus far, but with the Champions League and domestic Cup competitions hitting a new gear, the peaceful weeks will soon be a fond memory.

This means that Arne Slot will have a lot more work to do managing the fitness of his stars while also balancing playing time for players that have not seen a lot of time just yet and others that have played nearly all the minutes on offer.

As a result of this, other players who have not had a chance to breakthrough this season will get their chance to show Slot and others what they can bring. I'm here to look at three of those players.

1. Harvey Elliott

Elliott was arguably Liverpool's best player during the preseason friendlies, so to see him largely shut out of any serious minutes through three matches is somewhat surprising.

I was in the camp that he had earned an opening day start at worst, but it was not meant to be. This season is supposed to be his true breakout where he establishes himself in the XI, so he will not be happy with the start.

However, with the slew of fixtures slated to come in the coming months he will get his chance to replicate his fine preseason form.

He showed down the stretch of last season when he displaced Dominik Szoboszlai from the lineup that he could do the job if given a proper run and he will be eager to prove that again.

His positional versatility has always been a boon to his playing chances but it seems like Slot wants him focused more on the 10-hole in his formation. This responsibility could help him unlock the immense talent we all know is on offer.

2. Darwin Nunez

The form of Diogo Jota has largely capped any impact that Nunez could have made so far this season.

Just like Elliott, this is a huge season for Darwin as he needs a strong campaign to most likely retain his place in the squad. He was the second leading scorer and assister last season but he left far too many chances on the pitch for anyone's liking.

He is perhaps one of the best raw talents Liverpool have had in a long time but he needs to evolve his game to the next level for both his betterment and that of the club.

Jota has a spotty-injury history so there is no guarantee he maintains a stranglehold on the center-forward role so Nunez will have numerous opportunities to leave his mark.

We have yet to really see him get a proper go in the Slot system so it will be interesting to see if his chaotic nature is more controlled or not under the Dutchman.

3. Ryan Gravenberch

The play of the Dutchman in midfield has probably been the most pleasant surprise of the early season as he has made the No. 6 spot his own for the time-being.

He put on a virtuoso performance at Old Trafford in the big win as he dominated at both ends of the pitch and everywhere in between.

His emergence as a star in the Liverpool midfield has given new hope for fans and Slot that the long-term answer at the base of midfield might have been in-house all along. His dynamic playing style from deep in the pitch is a key piece of the Slot system.

For all the good work he has done, the future remains slightly uncertain. I think keeping him fully healthy is going to be huge in his development in this new role.

For now, playing once a week is perfect for him and his recovery but once the fixtures start coming thick and fast, he might need to be nurtured a bit more. Curtis Jones, Wataru Endo and a few others are ready to step in as needed.

Of the players currently shining this season, Gravenberch will be the biggest beneficiary of smart squad rotation going forward.
