3 players at Copa America that Liverpool should consider signing
The 2024 Copa America has been as feisty as it ever has been with shock results combining with physical play and some outstanding skill on show.
While it sometimes feels like the Euros overshadow this competition, there are some absolutely gifted players on show right now in the Copa. With an eye on the transfer window, I've highlighted three players that Liverpool should take a long look at this summer.
Let's take a look at some of these under-the-radar names to remember.
Richard Rios - CDM/CM - Colombia
We begin this list with a teammate of Luis Diaz as Rios could be an option to taking over the long-term defensive midfield role at Anfield.
At 24, he currently plays his club football at Brazilian powerhouse Palmeiras, but I think the time is right for him to make the move to Europe and a big-time club.
Rios is strong on the ball and off it, and he brings a physicality to the Colombian side that they sorely need. He is a tenacious tackler and his breakup work in passing lanes is also very good. His football IQ is as good as you'll see at this level.
He would not need the adapting time that a Wataru Endo needed for the first few months in England. Rios could thrive as one of the two double pivots in Arne Slot's system.
He is just about ready to enter his prime as a player but the cost to get him would not be over-the-top in terms of what some names we might consider otherwise.
Julio Enciso - AM/F - Paraguay
Enciso bagged himself a goal for Paraguay in their Copa America opener and the 20-year old is quickly becoming a hot name in the transfer rumor mill.
As the reports of the possible exit of 1 or 2 Liverpool forwards this summer continue, if Liverpool want to alleviate that with the acquisition of a young talent to nurture, Enciso could be their guy. He he is already an important player for the Paraguay national team and he has experience in the Premier League as he played for Brighton this past season.
He has suffered some injuries but at his age, that is not something that is a huge issue as of now. Keep him fit and surround him with the talent on offer at Liverpool and he could really hit the next level.
His current transfer value sits at €22 million which might rise a little bit if he keeps playing well at the Copa.
Jonathan David - F - Canada
Staying with the attack, the conclusion of last season showed that the Reds could never have too much quality finishers ready to throw on.
David is a player that feels like he has been around forever, but is still only 24. He brings good pace and technical skills on the ball which are both traits that would shine at Liverpool.
He scored the winning goal for Canada on a counterattack to beat Peru 1-0. He is the second all-time leading scorer in Canadian national team history so he has proven he can score at the highest level of the game.
He is coming off of a 25-goal campaign in France for Lille who he has played for since 2020. His peak value might never be higher for a club that rarely has a chance like this to cash in on a star player.
His 83 goals from 181 matches at Lille show he is not a one-season wonder and he is a name that Michael Edward should seriously consider.
