A closer look at Liverpool signings Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili

With the transfer window coming to an end soon, the Reds hope to get ahead in the race for the title with some new signings in attack and in goal.

Liverpool fans have been spoilt with action recently after a fairly quiet transfer window up until the past week.

The club just recently made two new signings, the first being Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for €29 million and the second being Italian forward Federico Chiesa from Juventus for €13 million.

The relatively low price for both of these wonderful players should be noted, with the reintroduction of Michael Edwards into the club last season, these kind of bargains are to be expected.

Edwards is responsible for the signing of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alisson Becker.

Chiesa typically plays right winger, but can also play as a 9 if needed. He is incredibly fast and excels at making runs down the wing and whipping a cross into the box whenever he can.

Last season, he played 33 games for Juventus in the Serie A, netting 9 goals and 3 assists, which is incredibly solid for the price that was paid for him.

Chiesa also had a great run in the 2020 Euros, where he played 7 games and scored 2 goals for Italy, helping them go on to win the cup. He is proven on the biggest stage in the sport.

As for his role with Liverpool, I would expect him to start out as a sub for Salah on the right side, but to eventually be tried as a striker in an effort to give competition to Darwin Nunez.

The versatility allows for him to play in any number of roles, so it should be interesting to see what Slot's vision is when it comes to the Italian playmaker.

Mamardashvili is both the Georgia national team keeper and the starting keeper for Valencia in La Liga.

Last season he recorded 13 clean sheets in 37 games with Valencia, which is more than respectable for a team of that caliber in a highly competitive league.

The terms of his loan state that he will continue to play on at Valencia this season, likely to allow him to continue to develop there while Alisson continues to play for Liverpool.

He is one of the better young keepers in the world and his value would have only gone up in the next few years so this was a good idea to get ahead of the curve.

This purchase is likely considered to be a long term investment for Slot, as Alisson still has plenty of time left both in his career and on his contract, but getting ahead of the curve will end up saving the Reds both time and money down the line.
