The Reds will travel on Thursday to Bergamo, Italy, to face Atalanta in the 2nd Leg of the Europa Quarterfinals.

Liverpool find themselves down 3-0 after the 1st Leg debacle at Anfield, but there is reason for hope as Liverpool has scored huge away wins in European competition before. Lets take a look at two of those games--one of which was against Atalanta!

Porto v Liverpool, 1-4, UCL QF 2nd Leg, 17 April 2019

In 2019, Liverpool traveled to Estádio do Dragão to take on Porto in the 2nd Leg of the Champions League Quarterfinal.

The Reds had a comfortable lead heading into the 2nd Leg after a 2-0 win at Anfield, but the Reds' advance to the Semi-Finals was far from certain.

Liverpool proceeded to put up a huge score in a game that was equal in just about every stat except the final score.

The Reds managed 5 shots on goal to Porto's 8, and possession was split 52% to 48% in favor of the Portuguese side.

The Reds were a team on a mission and took advantage of every opportunity that came their way. Liverpool opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Mo Salah's chip-pass found Sadio Mane on the right side of goal, and Mane's right-footed shot zipped past the diving Porto keeper.

Both teams kept up the attacking play, but it wasn't until 67th minute that Trent Alexander-Arnold's pass found a breaking Mo Salah, who finished with a left-footed shot around the keeper.

A Roberto Firmino header in the 77th minute gave the Reds their third goal, and Virgil van Dijk's header from a beautiful delivery by James Milner tallied the final goal for Liverpool.

Atalanta v Liverpool, 5-0, UCL Group Stage, 3 Nov 2020

If Liverpool fans need a reason to be encouraged going into Thursday night's match, then go watch a highlight of this game because the Reds put on a scoring and defensive clinic against the Italian side.

Diogo Jota got the Reds off to a fast start with a smooth chip over the Atalanta goalie in the 16th minute.

Jota followed that up in the 33rd minute with a lightning quick, right-footed shot that sped past the keeper into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Mo Salah's breakaway speed was on display in the 47th minute when he received a Curtis Jones clearance and took it the distance of the pitch to finish with a left-footed shot that bent around the keeper into the left side of the goal.

Just two minutes later, Mo threaded the needle on a pass to Sadio Mane, and Mane finished with a clever chip over the head of the Atalanta keeper.

Finally, Jota got his hat trick in the 54th minute when he persevered around the charging Atalanta keeper and finished into an empty net from just inside the penalty area.

The point of reliving these Liverpool victories is more than just a warm dose of nostalgia after a few disappointing results.

These victories provide confidence that the Reds can overcome the large deficit that they'll face on Thursday, and you can be certain that Jurgen Klopp's squad will believe that they have what it takes to get the job done.
