Bayern Munich targets versatile Liverpool defender and Slot wants Feyenoord reunion
- With the transfer window nearly upon us, the rumor mill will only kick into overdrive on a daily basis
- Joe Gomez played so well in 2023-24 that he is now garnering interest from true European giants
- Liverpool are being linked with defenders and wingers from every corner of the map
Good morning and happy Wednesday to you all! We are now just a few days away from the summer transfer window officially opening which means we will begin to see an uptick in transfer rumors, dealings and breaking news.
Per the norm, every Wednesday I go through the various transfer links, and Liverpool have a lot, to determine which threads are worth following and what can be left aside.
Let's get right into it.
New Bayern manager Vincent Kompany has interest in Joe Gomez
Kompany, fresh on the job for the Bavarians, is looking to implement his own style on the German giants.
Per the Mirror, he has identified Liverpool's super utility man as one of his first transfer targets in his new role. It's this versatility that has peaked Kompany's interest in the England defender.
Gomez, 27, is coming off his best season with Liverpool having played 51 times across all competitions. It's expected that the club do not have a strong desire to move Gomez this summer in any capacity.
The idea that his play this past season has warranted a real interest from the likes of Bayern Munich is an incredible recognition of how far his game has truly come.
Gomez also has a contract through 2027 so there is no rush to cash in either. The interest is flattering, but don't expect him to depart this summer.
Lutsharel Geertruida links persist for Liverpool
We go from Liverpool's swiss army knife to Feyenoord's Dutch version. Arne Slot oversaw the development of the 23-year old Netherlands international as he became a versatile player for his side.
He has played across the defense as well as in a defensive midfield role, depending on what the situation called for.
His price is rumored to be a shade under £26m which is more than reasonable for a player of his age and experience profile. His knowledge of the Slot system would be an added bonus to his integration at Anfield.
He's a good player that has leveled up in recent years and could take another big step at Liverpool.
Reports suggest the Reds have a real interest in the player and it could be one of the first moves they look at. This thread has real legs to it and is one to follow closely.
Liverpool looking at exciting Premier League winger
Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze has become the subject of reported interest from Liverpool in recent days. Eze formed an exciting attack alongside Michael Olise for Palace this past season.
Eze recorded 11 goals and 6 assists in 2023-24, his age 25 season. He does turn 26 later this month which could make his £60m price tag a bit hefty. He is teetering on the wrong side of the Liverpool transfer age profile so that is a knock on this rumor.
However, Eze is clearly a talented player that is already familiar with the Premier League which would mean his transition is not nearly as daunting.
Having said that, the price would have to drop significantly for this one to be truly a real deal, but if Palace are willing to negotiate favorable terms the skillset here is something that would suit Liverpool under Slot.
