Luis Diaz looking to continue Liverpool form with Colombia
Among the early standout players in the Arne Slot era is left-winger Luis Diaz. The Colombian forward has three goals and an assist in three matches. The win over Man United felt like the Luis Diaz show featuring Mo Salah, and now Diaz has the chance to push this form into the international break.
The stakes are always high in South American football, and they will be no different this window. The CONEMBOL World Cup qualifying gauntlet will see Luis Diaz and Colombia take on Peru on September 6th and Argentina on September 10th.
Colombia currently sits third in World Cup qualifying, just a point behind Uruguay and three points clear of fourth-placed Venezuela. After reaching the final in the most recent Copa America, Colombia and Luis Diaz have to be feeling good about their chances this window, even if they do face the World champions.
Liverpool's Diaz netted two goals at Copa America and ran the show against Brazil in WCQ qualifying in November 2023, scoring both goals for Colombia in a massive 2-1 win in Barranquilla.
