Liverpool reach massive agreement to name Arne Slot as Klopp's successor

With Jurgen Klopp set to depart Anfield after the conclusion of this season at Liverpool, the Reds' management has been working hard to appoint his successor.

As Rush the Kop had previously covered, Feyenoord manager Arne Slot had been strongly linked to a Liverpool switch, with the Dutch manager publicly stating he wants the job next season.

This situation has moved quickly, and reports now confirm that Arne Slot will become Liverpool's next manager. Fabrizio Romano, via X, reports that Liverpool FC and Feyenoord have reached an agreement on a compensation fee for Arne Slot.

Romano additionally reports that a contract between Slot and the Reds has already been finalized. Barring any last-minute changes, the 45-year-old Dutchman will head to the Premier League.

Arne Slot has managed Eredivisie giants Feyenoord since the summer of 2021, taking over the managerial position from Dick Advocaat.

During his time in Rotterdam, Slot won the Eredivisie (2022-23) and the KNVB Cup (2023-24) and was a runner-up in the 2022 edition of the Europa Conference League.

In 147 competitive matches to date, Feyenoord won 97 games with Slot. While PSV have yet to win the Eredivisie this season mathematically, it is essentially guaranteed Slot's Feyenoord side will finish runners-up in the league table. Slot previously managed AZ Alkmaar and Cambuur.

For Liverpool, the 2024-25 season will mark the beginning of a new era. It'll be the first season since 2015 that Jurgen Klopp will not manage the club.

Whether Slot will inherit the defending Premier League champions remains to be seen, although it is now looking increasingly unlikely.

Not dissimilar to Klopp, Slot is often hailed as a manager who focuses on high-pressing and intense attacking football to see his side succeed.

While specific tactics and formations may change for the club, it seems that Liverpool management want to see their players continue to live and breathe the ideals that Jurgen Klopp set forth on the club nearly nine years ago.
